Teak Case Study Part Eight (18/12/2017)

Teak’s Update

Current Gestation: 335 days
Notable Changes:
Today was had an ‘off schedule’ visit to Teak as I get a very exciting call from her owner to let me know that she had the first signs of wax! After rushing off to get my foaling kit together (details of its contents are in the video), I headed off to check Teak and bring you guys this update!

Her udder has definitely filled more, we have the first sign of obvious wax and Teak’s back end is starting to get ‘saggy’ and soft!

Because Teak has now waxed up I will be sleeping out at her owners’ house. We have also put her Equifone and FoalApp foaling alarms on her and I will be checking her through the night.

I will also be testing her pH morning and night to monitor any changes in this, a pH of 6.2 generally indicates foaling within 24 hours of the test – so we will see if Teak keeps to this!

Based on the information we have about her last foals her previous gestation lengths would put her foaling any time from Wednesday this week, though she is technically ‘due’ around Sunday/Monday (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!)

***Teak was inseminated on 17th January 2017 using one dose (8 straws) of imported frozen semen. She was confirmed 18 days in foal on 4th February 2017. Based on the average gestation of 330 – 345 days, Teak’s expected due date would be anywhere from 13th December – 25th December 2017***
